چکیده

Non-contact micro dispensing technologies have turned out to be ubiquitous tools in various industries and applications over the past decades. The well-known ink-jet printing technology – to give a prominent example – has paved the way to digital printing and still plays an important role in industrial fabrication together with micro-dispensing valves used in a large variety of applications. Though, both of these technologies are widespread and mature, it is often disregarded that they cannot enable all applications currently sought after in science and industry. Certain applications in the life sciences, and increasingly also in industry, require dedicated non-contact dispensing technologies with specifications significantly different from ink-jet and valve technology. This article discusses the most important requirements that guide the development and application of novel non-contact dispensing technologies such as massive parallel dispensing, disposable dispensing components and high temperature dispensing devices. Selected technologies developed in the past to address such needs are reviewed.

Wettability Study of Super-Hydrophobic Silica Aerogel Powders

Due to the importance of super-hydrophobic silica aerogel powder as a material in the field of energy saving, its wettability in the presence of various surfactants was investigated. One anionic and two non-ionic surfactants with different molecular structures were used as wetting and dispersing agents. Wetting properties of the aerogel powders were investigated by the contact angle measure...

A Low-Cost, Normally Closed, Solenoid Valve for Non-Contact Dispensing in the Sub-µL Range

We present a disposable, normally closed, non-contact dispensing valve for the sub-μL range. The miniaturized solenoid valve (diameter: 8 mm, height: 27.25 mm) is compatible to standard Luer-Lock interfaces. A highly dynamic actuation principle enables opening times down to 1 ms. The dispensing performance was evaluated for water (η = 1.03 mPas) and a 66% (w/w) glycerol/water solution (η = 16.9...

Analysis of wheel and rail Hertzian and Non-Hertzian contact theories using UM software considering the effect of rail inclination on wheel wear

Wheel-rail interaction has always been one of the issues in the railway industry. In this paper, the effect of Hertzian and non-Hertzian contact theories on the wheel wear due to the rail inclination was investigated. by using the UM software. According to the results, longer contact areas are obtained in non- Hertzian contact theory compared to Hertzian contact theory. In non-Hertzian contact...

Effective Parameters in Contact Mechanic for Micro/nano Particle Manipulation Based on Atomic Force Microscopy

The effect of geometry and material of the Micro/Nano particle on contact mechanic for manipulation was studied in this work based on atomic force microscopy. Hertz contact model simulation for EpH biological micro particle with spherical, cylindrical, and circular crowned roller shape was used to investigate the effect of geometry on contact simulation process in manipulation. Then, to val...

Strategic Technology Planning in Science-Based Subsectors of Petroleum Industry: The Case Study of R&D Roadmapping for Geochemical Exploration Technologies

Strategic planning of technology in Iran's oil industry has a long history, however, the knowledge-based sectors of the oil industry, despite their different characteristics, have been less exposed to such experiences, and hence the study of the experience in one of the key sub-sectors of this industry, namely the exploration geochemical sector, can be innovative. This article seeks to answer t...
